The CAPPA Labor Doula Training
Ready to become proficient when offering professional labor support? Take the first step towards becoming a Certified Labor Doula with CAPPA.  This eighteen-hour workshop meets the first requirement of your CLD program and prepares you to work through the steps for certification. This course is designed to provide a foundational skill base, knowledge, and perspectives on professional labor support for perinatal professionals, as well as providing training for those seeking certification as certified labor doulas with CAPPA.

Offering 18 CAPPA Contact Hours. Nursing contact hours potentially available on request.

The CAPPA Labor Doula Training Class includes the CAPPA Labor Doula Manual, and covers the following topics:

·           CAPPA certification and policies

·           Practical application of Scope of Practice, ethics, and integrity

·           Building bridges with medical/midwifery professionals

·           Modeling and teaching positive communication and self-advocacy

·           Support for every stage of labor and birth

·           Hands on practice of proven comfort measures and labor support techniques

·           Emotional support for labor and birth, as well as unexpected events

·           Hospital procedures – risk/benefit as well as alternatives and support

·           Cesarean and VBAC support

·           Prenatal and postpartum consultations and support

·           Breastfeeding initiation and support

·           Business development, marketing, and networking to create a successful career

·           And much more!

The CAPPA Labor Doula Training is the first step in becoming a CAPPA Certified Labor Doula!

Faculty: Katie Terry is a birth worker in Florence, AL. She became a Certified Labor Doula in 2013 and serves clients in Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Katie is a faculty member of CAPPA and offers Labor Doula Trainings across the Southeast and virtually. In 2015, she became owner of the doula company, The Shoals Doula Group, LLC where she runs all aspects of the business including mentoring her contracted doulas. She also leads their childbirth education class and has taught hundreds of couples to help prepare them for birth and to become informed consumers. Katie is also a Certified Aerobics Instructor (ACE) with a specialty in Perinatal Fitness (AFAA) and teaches classes locally. Katie has volunteered with several local and statewide organizations including the Alabama Birth Coalition, Safer Birth in Bama, ICAN of Huntsville, La Leache League, and local support groups for parents. Katie and her husband Jeremy live in Florence, AL with their three boys. They love cheering on their alma mater (Roar Lions!) and serving the community with their Redeemer Church of the Shoals family. 


Details of Refund Policy: As a participant of this training, I agree to the following cancellation policy: If the trainer cancels the workshop, the entire fee will be refunded. ALL OTHER CANCELLATIONS will be charged a $50.00 processing fee. If the cancellation is within one week of the workshop, NO REFUND will be given. With express written approval of the trainer, payment may be applies to a training workshop given by the same trainer within 12 months.
