The CAPPA Labor Doula Training
Ready to become proficient when offering professional labor support? Take the first step towards becoming a Certified Labor Doula with CAPPA. This eighteen-hour workshop meets the first requirement of your CLD program and prepares you to work through the steps for certification. This course is designed to provide a foundational skill base, knowledge, and perspectives on professional labor support for perinatal professionals, as well as providing training for those seeking certification as certified labor doulas with CAPPA.
Offering 18 CAPPA Contact Hours. Nursing contact hours potentially available on request.
The CAPPA Labor Doula Training Class includes the CAPPA Labor Doula Manual, and covers the following topics:
· CAPPA certification and policies
· Practical application of Scope of Practice, ethics, and integrity
· Building bridges with medical/midwifery professionals
· Modeling and teaching positive communication and self-advocacy
· Support for every stage of labor and birth
· Hands on practice of proven comfort measures and labor support techniques
· Emotional support for labor and birth, as well as unexpected events
· Hospital procedures – risk/benefit as well as alternatives and support
· Cesarean and VBAC support
· Prenatal and postpartum consultations and support
· Breastfeeding initiation and support
· Business development, marketing, and networking to create a successful career

The cost of this training is $600.00; a $150.00 deposit will hold your spot with the balance due by October 13th, 2023. A $75.00 late fee will be added to all registrations after October 13th, 2023.
Karen M. Peterson owner of KMP Doula Service has over 30 years of experience working with women, children and families. She is a faculty doula trainer for CAPPA, a certified labor and certified postpartum Doula (CAPPA), a certified lactation counselor, a safe sleep ambassador, and a certified child passenger safety technician.
Karen believes that the birthing space is a sacred one and feels privileged to help birthing people along their journey. Karen loves birthwork because it is a place where everyone involved becomes someone new. Karen supports healing, health equity, and the rights of childbearing people. Karen has great relationships with community based organizations and is connected to many referral services. She is a wife, mother and grandmother with a blended family of 8 children and 13 grandchildren.
She holds a BSED from West Chester University and has taught every grade level from K-12. Karen spent 12 years educating pregnant and parenting teens and prior to that she was a foster parent to teenage mothers. Karen is the former program director for the Pettaway Pursuit Foundation’s Doula by My Side Program and former interim program manager for Daddy University’s Paternal Involvement Initiative and Doula 4 Dads Program. Karen is the former founder & executive director of non-profit Women of Harmony, Inc.
Currently Karen is the Healthy Start case management coordinator and supervisor for the Doula Supplement program under The Foundation for Delaware County. Karen is a member of the Delaware County Breastfeeding Coalition and a graduate student at Widener University receiving a masters in clinical social work. There are no refunds except upon cancellation of the training by instructor Karen Peterson, please allow 14 days for all funds to be returned from date of cancellation. In the event of inclement weather or other circumstances that make it impossible for instructor Karen Peterson to hold the training a make-up date will be scheduled.
If trainee cancels funds may be transferred to another training with Karen Peterson within 12 months of the original transfer date and by paying a $75.00 transfer fee. If registrant fails to transfer to another training within 12months of the original training, registrant will forfeit any monies paid to instructor Karen Peterson and will not receive any refund.
In no way is Karen Peterson responsible for any travel expenses incurred.
