Serving families in Iowa and Illinois, Sydney is a full spectrum doula studying to become an Evidence Based Birth instructor and Fertility Support Specialist. Born and raised in the suburbs of Kansas City, Sydney has always been passionate about helping people. From her days of volunteering as a T-ball coach to working as an elementary school tutor to being a full time nanny, Sydney’s focus has always been on children and families. In 2016, she was introduced to the Young Women’s Resource Center’s Young Moms program and felt at home working with the young mothers and their children. As a daughter of a former teen mom, Sydney instantly connected with the women and wanted to support them however possible. Sydney is a CAPPA certified labor & postpartum doula and a Certified Lactation Specialist. Her business, Safera Services, supports the community through birth assistance, postpartum support, and lactation consulting for both the Young Women’s Resource Center, The Doula Network, and the Iowa Department of Public Health and Title V’s new doula program aimed at reducing black maternal mortality rates. She also recently was the recipient of the YWRC Louise Noun Impact Award for her work in the Des Moines area with young women.

In 2018, she received her Bachelor’s degree from Drake University in English and Law, Politics, and Society with a minor in Rhetoric, Media, and Social Change and concentration in Women & Gender Studies. Sydney focused on reproductive justice and critical race theory throughout her studies and in 2020 completed her master’s in legal studies at Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. She uses her knowledge of both the law and reproductive politics to help her clients and dreams of changing the legal and societal views on pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. Sydney provides nonjudgmental care and encouragement for all new parents through education, advocacy, and building sincere relationships.
