Phyllis Herbe is a Certified Labor Doula, mother of 5 young men and an expert in balancing grace and grit. As an ex-military spouse, supporting families through their perinatal experience has been ongoing for over 14 years. Her experience extends into her post-grad experience living in Juarez, Mexico working with women and children as they gain life skills, parenting skills and learn how to best care for their families while living in poverty. After moving to El Paso and getting married, she spent years working in non-profits and government agencies with victims of domestic violence, homeless women and pregnant teens. She was a foster parent to her now adopted son and has volunteered with La Leche League as a Leader during her time in El Paso. When the Army moved their family to Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina her journey into birth work continued as she served friends and family, fellow soldiers wives and new parents as they entered their own birth journeys. Her personal unmedicated birth experiences were varied and inspired her desire to promote physiological birth, empowered evidence based practices and advocacy work in her community. Currently focused on low-income and military family support, Phyllis has been pursuing multiple avenues of community building within the military community and beyond.
