I’m Lana and I am a mother of three beautiful children, and founder of Mother Courage Birth. Helping new moms has been my passion for over a decade. I believe that every woman deserves to be fully supported while they are giving birth because giving birth is hard enough on its own! Childbirth is more than medical or physiological—it is a rite of passage for both mother and baby and it is my aim that this sacredness is protected in your unique birth experience.
I have been trained in the Bradley Method and HypnoBabies, and I’ve done Rebozo training and Spinning Babies. I am also an experienced breastfeeding counselor, trained and accredited by La Leche League International, ready to help you initiate breastfeeding once your baby is born, and beyond. I have a BA from Biola University and an MA from CSU Northridge, where I did my thesis on childbirth in early modern England.
My business name stems from the fact that mothering—beginning with pregnancy and childbirth—builds us into courageous individuals. Courage comes from more than within—it also comes from a supportive circle around the mother. As your doula, I know that I am one part of that circle, linked with others who love you, who will also be your courage as you bring your baby into the world.
