Almost since birthing my first child I knew I wanted to become a midwife. Bringing a life into the world is the most exhilarating experience and I want all women to have the confidence to realize they can go all the way! My name is Jerian and I am a woman of God, a military wife, and a mom to my own four children and anyone else who needs me. For now, being a doula is the perfect fit because my passion is to come alongside women and be of service to them as they embark on their journey to become mothers. Having the privilege of being a support and a help to a woman as she gives birth is an extraordinary blessing.
I grew up all over as our family moved for my dad’s job with the government, so when my husband brought home the idea of joining the military, I was all for it. I am a wanderer at heart, always blooming where I am planted, and I love traveling and meeting new people. I have lived across the United States as well as in Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. I went to college to become a high school Biology teacher and ended up homeschooling our four children from K-12th grade and I am way better off for it. I consider myself a lifelong learner and homeschooling was the most amazing experience. I have made it my goal to take care of my family’s health through nutrition and natural healing by supporting what the body was designed to do.
I have to admit that the BBC’s “Call the Midwife” has been a huge encouragement to me and to my daughters. It is such a wonderful picture of birth and care in labor and I aspire to be like the amazing women portrayed in the show. As a military wife, I have found that the military community becomes family very quickly and as a result I have had the opportunity to help several military wives deliver their babies. A good friend asked for my support to go for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and she did it! While we lived in the Middle East I offered my help to a couple of first time mums as they were very far from family and really needed support in a foreign country. Both women were successful in their goals to have all natural expectant births resulting in happy, healthy babies!
As a doula I am looking forward to educating women in the possibilities that lie ahead for them in pregnancy, birth and motherhood.
