With a full professional history in the hospitality industry and a brief detour in medical billing, the last thing I expected was to fall in love with birth support and the powerful women involved. It all started when my sister asked me to be a second support person for her home birth in 2023. She had hired a labor doula and was planning to have a water birth. Through early and active labor I supported my sister with different comfort measures that the doula had taught me only weeks before, and when she went into transition I learned quickly that sometimes the best thing you can do as a support person is to shut up and sit down. The following day we welcomed my beautiful nephew, all of us exhausted but delighted. The whole experience warmed my heart to its core and it felt like such a privilege to be a part of it. It only took one such experience to convince me that I wanted to spend the rest of my life supporting and empowering women to approach and experience childbirth and postpartum with confidence and pride.
I have completed CAPPA training for both Labor and Postpartum Doula care and am in the process of getting certified for both.
